When valor is met on the field one thinks of chivalry,
I'll tell you of a knight so bold, and what a man should be.
If honor above all else is the crowning trait of man
All eyes must gaze and heads must turn and thoughts must be of him.
No man make question this knights worth, his prowess on the field,
Integrity his cornerstone, and never will he yield.
A leader for his Kingdom tho' he'd never wear a crown,
The silent captain, on his watch we'll never run aground.
Who is this knight, this man that we do hold above them all?
Kerstetter's Son, Atlantia's Prize, the mighty Sir Forgal.
For Kings may come and Kings may go like foam upon the wave.
But honor and integrity will last beyond the grave.
So lift your glass in toast with me and stand within this hall.
Remember now this valiant knight, this mighty Sir Forgal.
This song was commissioned at the 2nd Coronation of Anton and Luned, in the barony of Caer Mear by Anton himself. When I, as royal bard, went to swear my fealty to the Crowns, Anton asked for a song about his knight, Sir Forgal, who Duke Olaf has called in verse, "the knightlest knight I know." Anton promised in return for this commission any boon that was both just and within his power as King. I premiered the song at the following Crown Tourney, but made Anton sweat for several months before I begged my boon. What was it? To help me get armor and teach me to fight. I remember Anton's response to be something like, "Well Hell, Byram, is that all? I'd do that any way. I've done that for folks I didn't even like." This relationship would lead me to later become Duke Anton's squire.
